The new one is 2 - 3 times faster than the old one. And the same price. Ouch. Nice setup, regardless.

I second Colin's statement. ;-( If you got it within 30days, Apple might have a special exchange policy. I know they did when my friend got a regular ipod when the nano came out the next day.

I'm ready for my 3rd iMac G5 20". Sold my 2 iMac G4 17"s... Still haven't made the jump to MacBook-world. My hyperdrive is jammed!

Colin: Actually it isn't that much faster. The SPEC 2000 is written for machines that have more than one proc, when you run it on a machine that doesn't have multiple procs you are going to see that kind of difference. The new ones are faster mind you, just not to the extent Jobs was trying to claim.

But Chris, the new IMac are multiple processor machines, so are the new MacBook Pros. No?

Yes Colin, but you can't use a test that is built for multiple proc machines on a single proc machine as evidence of it being slower. That is like giving a test to someone in conversational german, when they have only had intro to german. Sure they can understand some of what is going on, but it really isn't a test of their abilities is it?

Ja... Wenn nur ein Test so sinnvoll war! Ich wünsche, daß es eine bessere Methode gab, Computerprozessorleistung zu messen, pfff!!! (edit: had to correct my deutschesprach!)

In depth analysis of the new intel iMac vs the G5 iMac and the G5 tower: arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/imac-coreduo.ars/6

WTF? WIMMERN! That test's reason enough to suspect that Apple's new machine's will not trump the old G5 versions for some time. Core Duo my ass. Of course, my friend says "well, Photoshop hasn't been optimized for the Core Duo..." Do we all want to wait until all of our software is "u" binary before we switch? For the most part, I think so. Thanks for the link, Chris!
